Mike Tomkins

Interim Chief People Officer

Mike serves as Partnership Leader for Security, Safety and Resilience and has been Interim Chief People Officer since May 2026. He joined World Vision in 2006 as Regional Security Director for the Asia Pacific Region, initially supporting Tsunami Response programmes, and has since built a proven career across international NGOs, government, and law enforcement. At World Vision International, Mike leads the global security, staff care, fleet management, and organisational resilience functions across nearly 100 countries.

Prior to World Vision, Mike held a national leadership role with the New Zealand Ministry of Justice, where he redeveloped the court security strategy and oversaw the modernisation of security systems. His career also includes global security risk management, crisis response, and investigations, alongside service as a Detective in the New Zealand Police and as a reserve Army Officer in the New Zealand Defence Force. Known as a creative problem solver who is not afraid to challenge the status quo, Mike brings fresh thinking and bold leadership to drive meaningful change in complex environments. He is recognised for his strategic leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and ability to help organisations deliver safe and effective operations in dynamic environments.

Mike is deeply committed to World Vision’s mission of serving the most vulnerable, marginalised, and overlooked — motivated by a personal calling to serve “the least of these.” He is married to Hilary and lives in New Zealand. They have two married daughters and one grandchild, and together they are active members of St Lukes church.
