World Vision International Nepal

World Vision International (WVI) Nepal is part of the World Vision International global partnership, which operates in nearly 100 countries worldwide. World Vision established its presence in Nepal through cross-border humanitarian support from 1982 to 1993, assisting communities affected by the Udayapur earthquake in 1988 and the floods of 1993. Formally established in Nepal in 2001, World Vision launched eight Area Development Programmes, expanding child sponsorship, health, education, and community services across underserved districts to contribute to the well-being of children.

Today, WVI Nepal implements long-term development programmes in 17 districts—Udayapur, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Rautahat, Sindhuli, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Lamjung, Jumla, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Achham, Doti, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Banke, and Bajhang—across all seven provinces of Nepal. The organisation delivers its country strategy through integrated development, advocacy, and disaster management programmes, implementing innovative and sectoral interventions in local communities and neighbourhoods. Its programmes focus on education, health, nutrition, child protection, resilience, disaster risk reduction, community engagement, and sponsorship, with gender equality and social inclusion mainstreamed across all interventions. More than half of these programmes are long-term initiatives that have been implemented for over a decade in their respective programme areas.

Through its 2026–2030 Country Strategy, WVI Nepal aims to improve the well-being of one million children, particularly the most vulnerable, by ensuring that children are protected from violence, are well nourished, achieve improved learning outcomes, and experience positive and peaceful relationships within their families and communities. These outcomes will be achieved through an Integrated Programme Framework (IPF) focused on protection, nutrition and livelihoods, and inclusive education, implemented through a combination of Core Project Models integrated into Area Programmes and grant-funded projects over the next five years.

WVI Nepal takes a reconciliation-based approach to addressing injustice and poverty, placing children and communities at the centre of decisions that affect their lives. Recognising that children are vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, and coercion, the organisation works alongside families, communities, and local institutions to create safe and supportive environments where children can thrive. Through community needs-based interventions aligned with government priorities, WVI Nepal contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Government of Nepal’s periodic development plans.

Guided by global child sponsorship standards and a commitment to maximising child well-being, WVI Nepal collaborates with World Vision’s global offices and support offices worldwide. The organisation receives funding from individual child sponsors, foundations, corporations, governments, and multilateral and bilateral agencies. These resources enable WVI Nepal to deepen its impact on children, their families, and their communities through both long-term development programming and targeted grant-funded initiatives.

WVI Nepal adheres to World Vision’s global standards for financial management, accountability, and stewardship. The organisation maintains high standards of professional competence, best practice, transparency, and financial accountability, ensuring that donor resources are managed responsibly and effectively to achieve sustainable outcomes for vulnerable children and communities.
