Changing children’s lives since 1971.

Imagine facing a crisis so severe that your entire community is in danger. That was Ethiopia in the 1980s, when a devastating drought left millions starving. We stepped in, leading massive relief efforts that saved countless lives. But we didn’t stop there.

Since 1971, we’ve been working in Ethiopia, not just with emergency aid but by helping communities build a better future. Today, we run over 100 long-term programmes across the country, tackling issues that affect children and families every day. We help provide clean water and sanitation to communities, create a sustainable environment, improve nutrition so children can grow up healthy, and ensure kids get the education and life skills they need to succeed.

We also protect children from harm and stand up for their rights. And when disaster strikes, whether it’s drought, conflict, or floods, we respond quickly, reaching around 159 districts across the country.

With eight regional hubs and teams working across 12 regional states, we’re making a real difference for children and families. We’re not just providing aid; we’re helping build an Ethiopia fit for children.

OUR GOAL: By 2030, 15 million children in Ethiopia will be more resilient, nourished, safe, and educated, experiencing hope for a better future, the joy of childhood, and peace in their communities.

of which 319,697 are children, 157,611are girls, and 162,086 are boys. By investing in early childhood development, literacy, and teacher capacity, World Vision Ethiopia ensured that children were not only enrolled in school but also equipped with the foundational skills required for lifelong learning.

Of which 1,167,415 are children, 595,382 are girls, and 572,033 are boys, through integrated interventions in food security, WASH, health, nutrition, protection, shelter, and education, millions of crisis-affected children and families received timely, life-saving support.

Of which 917,900 are children, 468,129 are girls, and 449,771 are boys, had access to a sustainable and clean water supply, sanitation and hygiene.

Of which 1,103,245 are children, 571,485 are girls, and 531,760 are boys. Our livelihoods work connected short-term recovery with long-term resilience. Through climate-smart agriculture, savings groups, and income diversification, families strengthened their incomes and prepared for future shocks. Environmental restoration and reforestation reduced climate risks while engaging children in stewardship and leadership for the future.

Of which 334,048 are children, 172,004 are girls, and 162,044 are boys. This year marked a shift from protection as a response to protection as a system and culture. By strengthening referral pathways, positive parenting, and community accountability mechanisms, World Vision Ethiopia ensured that children were not only protected from harm but also actively supported to participate in shaping safer environments.
