The National School Feeding Program (PRONAE) will incorporate the provision of school meals in the context of emergency responses triggered by natural disasters and conflicts in Mozambique This initiative is expected to come to effectiveness in 2026 with the distribution of school meals to complement the take-home rations that currently are bringing relief to children in the provinces of Sofala and Cabo Delgado.

Matthew Pickard, Regional Director for World Vision Southern Africa, reflects on Mozambique’s powerful example of post-conflict recovery and resilience. Drawing from personal experience in Niassa Province after the civil war, he emphasises that peace is not solely the product of political agreements—it is built and sustained by communities. Yet, Mozambique’s peace remains fragile. In Cabo Delgado, ongoing insurgency has displaced over 50,000 people since early 2024. He reaffirms that Mozambique’s story underscores a critical development truth: sustainable peace is people-powered. When local leadership, civil society, and governments collaborate, transformation is not only possible—it’s inevitable.

Young people and children across various parts of Mozambique launch the “Gimme-5” Movement, a Child and Youth Advocacy Group to influence and accelerate the implementation of essential and integrated services for child well-being in the country.
