Tour de Toilette: Toilets around the world
The following photos show examples of toilets built in communities where World Vision works. World Vision does not typically build toilets for households. Rather, our local water, sanitation and hygiene experts build “model” toilets at health centres and in schools. They educate community members on the importance of toilets to overall public health, and, through these model toilets and through training, community members build their own toilets in their own homes. While some toilets may look quite rustic, the fact that they are built and owned by community members themselves makes them much more likely to be used.
Over the past 5 years, World Vision has reached almost 8 million people with sanitation, and we seek to continue reaching more and more people until everyone in our programme areas has access to safe, dignified sanitation.
