Children for Christ Camps 2017

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

World Vision Rwanda (WV Rwanda), in partnership with 6 church umbrella bodies in Rwanda, organised the 2017 edition of the Children For Christ Camps, which took place from August 8-11 in different parts of Rwanda and gathered around 1,300 children. This year, the theme of the Children for Christ Camps was “Child, obey your parents”, as inspired by Proverbs 1:8. The main objectives of these camps were to celebrate and empower children for their holistic growth from a biblical perspective and to promote children's spiritual formation. Among the main activities conducted were group discussions, games, and competitions.

I am very excited to be here, we will learn how to behave the way God likes!” said 12-year-old Kevine, one of the children who attended the camp in Kigali.

The Children For Christ Camps 2017 were followed by the Sunday of the Rwandan Child marked on August 13. On this special day, children were allowed to lead their church services, to preach, sing, and conduct many other planned activities in their respective local churches around the country. The reason behind this day is to encourage churches to improve their child care programmes and celebrate children’s different talents and gifts.

The church umbrellas who are partner organisers for this event include the Province of Anglican Church in Rwanda (EAR), the Episcopal Conference of Rwanda (CEPR), the Protestant Council of Rwanda (CPR), the Evangelical Alliance (AER), the National Unity Fellowship of Pentecostal Christian Churches in Rwanda (NUFPCCR), and Salt & Light International (SLI). Leaders and representatives from the mentioned organisations graced this year’s edition of the Children for Christ Camps, alongside WV Rwanda leadership and staff.
