The Oldest Grandma and Her Great Granddaughter

Friday, February 21, 2014

At a shelter, called SDN SIMAN 1, there are 3 babies. Eight-month-old Alin is here with her mother and great-grandmother who is 102. They are staying together.

The youngest baby in this shelter is four months old. Thankfully the parents were well prepared; they packed and loaded a bed into their car a week before the eruption so they don't have to sleep on the floor of the evacuation center.

Their house in Kebon Rejo village collapsed so they are unsure how long will it take for them to live a normal life again.

"When I went home to check the condition [of the house] with my husband, I felt stressed thinking how much money will it take to fix all the damage. We had just harvested our crops, and they were ready to sell. Now they are also ruined an we cant sell them."
