Global Week of Action: World Vision amplifies the voices of citizen’s

The opening ceremony of Global Week Action took place May, 4th 2015 at the Centre of International Conference of Bamako CICB under the presidency the minister of Health and Public Sanitation: Mr. Ousmane KONE, in the presence of World Vision National Director, and several partners like the representative of Save the children Mali and Guinea: Dr Raphael Sindaye, the representative of WHO and various guests.

The campaign Child Health Now left Bamako to the region of Segou on May, 6th 2015.

For this 3rd edition of Global week action, World Vision decided to involve communities in order to hear their voice, that is why, World Vision chose the Cercle of San to continue the Global Week of Action activities related to the health of the mother and the child with this year theme:  “Stop at nothing to get to zero preventable death of child from 0 to 5 years old’’.

Activities included a community citizen’s hearing, a marathon, and free music concert.

The Citizen’s day started under the presidency of the Governor of Segou region: Thierno Boubacar CISSE, and in the presence of the prefect of San, the under-prefects of San cercle, partners, civil society, religious leader, community leaders, the members of Everyone Campaign, Expert Committee, the Deputy Head, general administrator of Orange foundation, World Vision staff. Many rural population came to share their voice during the Citizen Hearing.

In his speech, the Governor mentioned significant progress in terms of existing health care services, maternal, newborn and child death reduction in our country related to MDG. However, those progresses need to be reinforced in order to accelerate efforts. He also invited all the participants to involve individually in a way that meeting conclusion will contribute to improve the health of our mothers, sisters, spouses and daughters. 

The National Director of World Vision said that the results of the hearing will be translated into recommendations that will guide the government in defining the priority objectives for the next 15 years specifically for maternal and child health.

To combine business with pleasure since it is about health, a marathon of 3 km was organized between students of different schools of San. World Vision awarded the top five of the race and all children who participated received presents with the support of Orange Foundation which partnered with World Vision during the entire Week festivities.

World Vision awarded 50 community heroes for their relentless commitment to improving maternal and child health. Among them are: voluntary sponsorships, community health workers and mother.

For the closing evening, famous Malian artists Abdoulaye Diabaté and Milmo entertained the public with a free concert to close the day activities in San youth center.

The different recommendations from Bamako and San citizen hearing plus 15 communities’ citizen voice and action recommendations were compiled and handed to the minister of health on May14.

World Vision Mali held  a successfull Global Week of Action with 13,348 Malians mobilized.
