World Vision statement in response to bombing outside Kabul Airport

Thursday, August 26, 2021

World Vision is deeply concerned to hear about the bombing – possibly two bombings - outside Kabul airport which is reported to have caused multiple deaths and injuries. Thousands of Afghans are waiting outside the airport at this time, including many families with children.

We call on all parties to prioritise the peace, safety and security of children and their families. This is especially important at this time when violence could spiral out of control. The last thing Afghanistan needs is to descend into violence. Decades of conflict and instability have only resulted in huge loss of life, lack of development and the undermining of people’s freedoms and rights.

ENDS.
