Media Advisory - World Vision at COP27

1. Tony Rinaudo, Senior Climate Action Advisor, World Vision Australia

Tony will release a new World Vision report “Restore Land, Restore Hope” at Evidence to Scale-up: A Community-led Natural Climate Solution to Regreen the Globe on Thursday, 16 November in the Osiris Room at 15:00-16:30. The event is led by World Vision with the Rainforest Alliance

Tony is at COP27 to make the case that Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) is a far more effective technique than spending millions in tree-planting reforestation. FMNR, an evidence-based approach of re-greening degraded landscapes that uses simple tree pruning techniques to achieve rapid, low-cost, and scalable outcomes, rehabilitation of forest. Known as “The Forest Maker,” on FMNR since 1983, Tony has revived millions of hectares from desolate dry ground to thriving arable land across more than twenty countries in Africa. This rehabilitation brings with it increased food security and sustainability for thousands of communities. Rinaudo’s work has earned him numerous awards and accolades including being named a 2018 Right Livelihood Laureate (often referred to as the “Alternative Nobel Prize”).
