World Vision Deepens Local Action to End Child Malnutrition in Northern Mozambique

Enough workshop
Wednesday, July 16, 2025

Nampula, Mozambique – 16 July 2025 – In a bid to accelerate progress towards ending child malnutrition, the province of Nampula will host a pivotal workshop from 17-18 July, aimed at reinforcing community-led action and political commitment under the banner of World Vision’s “Enough” campaign.

Malnutrition remains one of Mozambique’s most urgent public health concerns, affecting 37% of children under the age of five. This silent crisis stifles children's physical growth and cognitive development, undermining their right to a life in fullness. Its wider impact is staggering, with losses estimated at 10.9% of national GDP annually – a cost borne not only by the economy, but by generations of children denied the chance to thrive.

In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 2 – to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030 – the “Enough” campaign aims to elevate child nutrition on the national policy agenda and amplify community voices within decision-making spaces. It stands as a bold call for justice, inclusion, and practical action.

The Nampula workshop will bring together approximately 50 stakeholders, including representatives from government institutions, civil society, faith-based organisations, and the private sector. Key objectives include:

  • Strengthening awareness of the campaign’s mission and messaging
  • Fostering institutional and community commitment to end child hunger
  • Co-creating a locally anchored engagement plan to ensure sustained impact

The event will also be graced by Dr Nazira Abdula, wife of the Governor of Nampula Province and a prominent ambassador of the campaign. Her presence underscores the growing political will to tackle this issue and amplify the voices of families and children affected by food insecurity.
