EU Flower Power project strengthens floriculture in Morobe
World Vision Papua New Guinea and the Morobe Floriculture Association Inc signed a partnership agreement last week marking a significant milestone in advancing floriculture across six project areas in Lae and Huon Gulf districts. This achievement is a key outcome from work being implemented under the European Union funded Flower Power Project in Morobe.
This collaboration will enable the release of Financial Support to a Third Party (FSTP) into MFA Inc’s account, paving the way for the association to host its first floral market from May 21st–23rd and to continue implementing key activities under the project. World Vision PNG’s Interim National Director, Godfrey Bongomin, emphasized the importance of the partnership by saying, “As a community-based organisation, we want to see thisAssociation grow, and we are here to support our people. We believe in partnerships, and the signing of this agreement marks the beginning of greater things.”
The successful establishment and registration of the Morobe Floriculture Association Inc was the first big outcome for the EU Flower Power project. MFA Inc is registered with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), having secured its TIN certificate last year, and opened a bank account with Bank South Pacific, MFA Inc. is now well-positioned to drive long-term growth in the floriculture industry in Morobe.
Pastor Carol Ahi, Flower Power Beneficiary and Women’s Leader from Butibam Village, expressed her gratitude: “Thank you to the European Union and World Vision for their hearts for the children, women and men of Morobe Province. This is the first initiative of its kind for flower growers here in the province. World Vision has fulfilled one of the hopes that mothers of Morobe wanted to see. Congratulations to the six project sites. Finally, we have an association registered for the flower growers of Morobe.”
Through the project, florists have been equipped with organizational and business skills, ensuring MFA Inc. can operate effectively.
This initiative underscores the European Union’s commitment to promoting women and youth economic empowerment, while highlighting World Vision PNG’s dedication to strengthening civil society organizations. Ultimately, MFA Inc. is set to become a central hub for floriculture in Morobe Province, contributing to long-term economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
