Standard Chartered and World Vision Partner to Strengthen Climate Resilience in Coastal Bangladesh
World Vision Bangladesh and Standard Chartered Bangladesh have entered into a strategic partnership to implement two climate-resilient initiatives supporting communities in Bangladesh’s highly climate-exposed coastal regions. The partnership was recently formally marked through an agreement-signing ceremony held at Standard Chartered Bank’s Head Office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The initiatives respond to growing climate risks faced by coastal communities, including salinity intrusion, ecosystem degradation, water insecurity, and increasing frequency of extreme weather events—challenges that disproportionately affect children, women, and vulnerable households.
Programme Focus
The joint initiatives address the interconnected challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and access to safe water in coastal Bangladesh, particularly in areas surrounding the Sundarbans. The programmes focus on:
- Ecosystem restoration to regenerate degraded coastal landscapes and strengthen natural protection against cyclones, tidal surges, and erosion
- Community-led, climate-resilient livelihoods that support sustainable land and forest management while strengthening household income security
- Solar-powered safe drinking water solutions in salinity-affected areas to improve health outcomes and reduce the daily burden of water collection
A strong emphasis is placed on inclusive participation, ensuring that women, girls, and differently abled people are actively engaged in planning, governance, and implementation.
Impact and Reach
Grounded in nature-based solutions, renewable energy, and community leadership, the initiatives are expected to directly benefit approximately 25,000 people across vulnerable coastal communities.
By combining environmental restoration with safe water access and livelihood support, the programmes aim to deliver both immediate improvements in well-being and longer-term climate resilience for families and communities.
A Shared Commitment
This partnership reflects a shared commitment by Standard Chartered Bangladesh and World Vision Bangladesh to advancing climate adaptation, sustainable development, and safe water access in some of the country’s most climate-vulnerable areas.
Together, the organisations are working to ensure that children and families can build safer, healthier, and more resilient futures in coastal Bangladesh.
