More than 520 Families Supported as Assistance Continues for Children Affected by the Earthquakes
Caracas, Wednesday, July 1, 2026
The humanitarian response in Venezuela continues to evolve following the earthquakes that struck the country on June 24. While search and rescue operations remain ongoing in some areas, response efforts are increasingly focused on humanitarian assistance, child protection, and supporting families who remain displaced from their homes.
World Vision Venezuela continues to actively monitor the emergency and is providing food baskets and hygiene kits to affected families, while prioritizing the protection and well-being of children through Temporary Child-Friendly Spaces.
Background and Context
Seismic activity in Venezuela continues to be monitored by national and international authorities as thousands of families remain vulnerable due to the structural damage caused by the earthquakes and subsequent aftershocks.
According to the official update issued on June 30, the emergency has resulted in 1,943 fatalities, 10,571 injuries, and 157 officially reported missing persons. In addition, more than 69,000 people remain unaccounted for due to disruptions to communications and family tracing systems.
Authorities also report 15,866 people affected, 2,501 damaged infrastructure assets, including 855 buildings, 38 hospitals, 44 shopping centres, and 1,645 bridges and roads with varying degrees of damage.
The most severely affected states remain Distrito Capital, La Guaira, Miranda, Carabobo, Aragua, Falcón, and Yaracuy, where temporary shelters and collective accommodation sites continue to be priority locations for humanitarian assistance and the protection of children and their families.
What is World Vision Doing?
As part of its humanitarian response, World Vision has supported more than 520 affected families through the distribution of hygiene kits, food baskets, and other essential assistance designed to meet immediate needs while protecting their health, well-being, and food security.
On June 30, World Vision provided humanitarian assistance to 320 families living in the National Pantheon and San Bernardino shelters in Caracas. The organization also supplied food provisions to the Santa Cruz del Este Community Kitchen, enabling the preparation of 300 meals per day for one month.
In the area of child protection, World Vision provided support to 70 children and adolescents through a Child-Friendly Space, offering Psychological First Aid (PFA) and facilitating referrals for children who lacked personal documentation.
The organization also continues strengthening the capacity of frontline responders through training in Child Protection, Psychological First Aid (PFA), Safe Referrals, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response, and Protection Risk Mitigation.
World Vision Continues to Scale Up Its Operational Response
World Vision maintains an operational presence in Distrito Capital, Miranda, La Guaira, Aragua, Carabobo, Falcón, and Yaracuy, while also leveraging operational capacity in other regions to deploy specialized personnel and resources as humanitarian needs continue to evolve.
As part of the next phase of the response, the organization will deploy teams to Catia La Mar (La Guaira State) to support 400 additional families through the distribution of ready-to-eat food baskets and hygiene kits. World Vision will also establish two additional Temporary Child-Friendly Spaces at Club Bahía and Atanzazú Church in Playa Grande, Catia La Mar.
