Resilience among Community Health Workers (CHWs): A World Vision-led Study in Lao PDR and Zambia
This poster was presented by Esther Indriani, World Vision International, at the 4th International Community Health Workers Symposium in November 2025.
World Vision conducted a study in Lao PDR and Zambia to assess resilience among CHWs, who play a vital role in delivering primary health care under challenging conditions. Using the Brief Resilience Scale, researchers surveyed 159 CHWs and found that most scored in the low to moderate range, indicating limited ability to recover from stress.
The findings underscore the urgent need to strengthen CHW resilience through improved working conditions, supportive supervision, and targeted training. Embedding resilience-building within CHW programmes will not only enhance their well-being but also improve the sustainability and quality of community health service delivery.
