Between the '90s and early 2000s, Cambodia showed impressive achievement in the percentage of children in Cambodia exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months; however, it later decreased from 74% in 2010 to 51% in 2021. In addition, the country registered low rates of early breastfeeding initiation, with only 54% of new-borns breastfed within 1 hour of birth, even though 98.7% of the births are delivered by skilled birth attendants in Cambodia according to the Cambodia Demographic Health Survey (CDHS) 2021-2022.

Sustainable farming empowers Moeun Sameth’s family amidst climate change
This is the best adjective to qualify the weather patterns in Cambodia’s modern history. The Southeast Asian country recently experienced record-high temperatures in May, as a result of an El Niño event. This meteorological phenomenon generated historical droughts, directly affecting a population that relies heavily on agriculture and fisheries (25% of GDP, 49% of employment of the country’s labor force)1. In the communities served by World Vision International - Cambodia alone, over 360,000 individuals were directly affected by the droughts.

Unfinished Business: The progress in policies to end violence against children
Each year, one billion children suffer from violence, losing their innocence and bearing lifelong scars. Despite government promises to end this violence, progress is inconsistent, with some areas regressing. A new report highlights the current state of policy commitments in 21 countries, revealing that no country has done enough to end violence against children by 2030. While some countries have outlawed violence, enforcement is lacking, and loopholes remain. West Africa, in particular, shows minimal progress and high rates of child marriage and labor.
