To rethink how to effectively address food crises and showcase how the humanitarian system can update and re-imagine itself to meaningfully contribute to reversing the trends of acute hunger and reduce needs, ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment (HAS) had a side event focused on People-Driven Responses: The Effective Way to Combat Food Crises. World Vision, represented by Amanda Rives Argeñal, discussed the transformative potential of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), as a preferred modality to meet recipients’ specific needs, specifically in protracted food crises, while offering flexibility, dignity, and cost effectiveness.

World Vision is deeply concerned for the well-being of children and their families affected by the earthquake: Children are among the most affected, facing increased risks, loss of learning, and urgent protection needs. World Vision is providing life-saving relief assistance to the children and the families affected by the earthquake. We aim to support 500,000 people, including 85,057 boys and 86,902 girls, through both immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts.

As part of WV’s Myanmar Earthquake Response, in partnership with WFP, 9,313 people have received Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA). The World Food Programme and World Vision have been in long-term partnership for years prior to the earthquake. With WFP's support, World Vision has provided support to vulnerable families and children through various initiatives, including food distribution, maternal and child cash transfers, assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs), and cash-for-assets programmes.

In the once-barren land of Katete District, in Kalonga Gawa Undi’s chiefdom in eastern Zambia, a quiet transformation is taking root thanks to the determination of Evelyn Mwansa, whose new passion is to embrace and preserve nature. Evelyn Mwansa, a 46-year-old mother of five, has become a beacon of environmental change through her work in Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), a simple yet powerful land restoration technique she learned through training provided by World Vision.

This article highlights the progress of a school feeding programme in the Greater Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. By promoting the use of locally grown, nutrient-rich crops such as cowpeas, cassava, and sweet potatoes, the initiative not only improves the nutritional quality of school meals but also strengthens community resilience and agricultural self-sufficiency. It showcases how different provinces like Kasaï Oriental, Kasaï Central, and Lomami are adapting crop choices based on local needs and market value. The article also emphasises the educational dimension of the programme and outlines how communities are taking ownership to sustain the initiative even during school holidays. Through a blend of nutrition, education, and local empowerment, the programme stands as a model for sustainable development.

The olive harvest is a critical source of income for 15% of the Palestinian population. However, due to violence and restrcitions on movements, many farmers have lost their capacities to cultivate and earna living for their families. Through its emergency response, World Vision is supporting them so they can go back to cultibvating their land.

FY 24 Impact: World Vision Afghanistan worked across 34 districts and more than 3,200 villages across Herat, Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, and Nangahar provinces, delivering critical assistance to over 1.2 million people, nearly half of them children. Read the full report.
