Anicia Zawadi Method’s journey is a powerful testament to what becomes possible when children are equipped with opportunity, confidence and a voice. From early loss and hardship to national leadership, her story reflects resilience, courage and the lasting impact of World Vision Tanzania’s commitment to child empowerment.

Anicia was registered as a sponsored child at the age of seven in Mbuka Area Programme, in Tanzania’s Kagera Region. Her childhood took a painful turn when she lost her mother, an event that reshaped her life at an age when most children depend heavily on care and protection. Her older sister moved to live with their grandmother, leaving Anicia to navigate grief and responsibility largely on her own.

Life was difficult, but it did not define her future.

Through World Vision Tanzania’s holistic child sponsorship support, Anicia gained access to education, school supplies and psychosocial care. These interventions did more than meet immediate needs. They helped rebuild her sense of safety, strengthened her emotional wellbeing, and gradually restored the confidence that loss had shaken. Within a supportive environment, Anicia began to rediscover her potential and imagine a future beyond survival.

As Anicia progressed in school, signs of leadership and self-expression emerged. In 2022, she entered a national essay competition organised by World Vision Tanzania. Writing with clarity and conviction, she placed first at both district and regional levels and ranked sixth nationally—an extraordinary achievement that reflected her growing confidence, communication skills and belief in her voice.

Her success extended beyond personal recognition. The essay captured attention and inspired support that contributed to the construction of new classrooms at her school, improving learning conditions for hundreds of children. It was a powerful reminder that when children are empowered, their achievements can ripple outward, creating collective benefit.

Anicia’s leadership journey reached a new milestone in June 2025 when she was selected by the Joining Forces alliance—comprising Plan International, SOS Children’s Villages, Save the Children and World Vision Tanzania—to represent children at the national level.

During a visit to Dar es Salaam, she was elected National Vice Chairperson of the Children’s Council, a role that elevated her voice in advocacy for children’s rights and wellbeing. In this position, Anicia engages with decision-makers and speaks on issues affecting millions of children across Tanzania, demonstrating that young people can meaningfully contribute to national dialogue when given the space to lead.

In August 2025, Anicia joined fellow young leaders at a high-level forum in Dodoma, engaging with government officials, the African Children’s Union and international partners to discuss the impact of climate change on children. Her confident participation highlighted the importance of child-centred approaches to climate action and policy development.

For Anicia, these moments are deeply personal.

“When I was younger, I thought my dreams had died after losing my mother,” she says. “But now, World Vision has given me new hope. My participation in the essay competition, my role as National Vice Chairperson, and my involvement in discussions in Dodoma have made me believe that my dreams can come true if I continue to work hard.”

Inspired by World Vision’s girls’ empowerment initiatives, Anicia dreams of becoming a doctor and a strong advocate for girls’ education. Today, she confidently represents children from across the country in high-level engagements, speaking out on child marriage, teenage pregnancy, hunger, malnutrition, harmful cultural norms and environmental challenges.

Her story is proof that when children are nurtured with care, knowledge and opportunity, they can rise beyond adversity and become powerful agents of change. Anicia Zawadi Method is not just a beneficiary of support—she is a leader shaping Tanzania’s future, one voice at a time.
