Five years to reach at least 500,000 people with appropriate drinking water, hygiene and sanitation solutions.

On 18 September 2025, World Vision officially launched its Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) business plan for the 2026–2030 period. This strategic plan is based on an integrated approach that ensures access to quality drinking water, safe sanitation and essential hygiene, while strengthening the health, nutrition, education and protection of vulnerable communities. It highlights the vital role of water as a driving force for sustainable development and economic growth and pursues the following objectives for the next five years:

  • Accelerate universal and equitable access to WASH services to improve health, well-being, and livelihoods
  • Deepen focus on the most vulnerable people, especially in fragile contexts
  • Demonstrate sustainable impact for increased transparency and accountability
  • Leverage $1.5 billion global business plan to mobilise financing for WASH services

“ The activities will mainly consist of building sustainable water supply facilities, improving hygiene and sanitation services, and helping vulnerable households overcome their vulnerability through income-generating activities ” explains World Vision's WASH Manager, Jean Ferdinand Sawadogo.

The business plan's implementation approach is based on strengthening collaboration with partners, local communities and authorities, multisectoral integration, transparency and accountability. This should enable the implementation of targeted strategies tailored to the context of Burkina Faso in order to maximise impact, effectiveness and sustainability.

For Lassina Sanou, representative of the Minister in charge of Water, World Vision's WASH business plan is aligned with national policy, due to the critical efforts in this area, where meeting the water and sanitation needs of the population remains a major challenge for the country.

With a projected budget of more than US$12 million over five years, the business plan will be funded by World Vision's global partnership and by fundraising at the local level.

World Vision called on its various technical and financial partners, United Nations agencies, the private sector, civil society and local communities to join forces and pool their expertise in order to achieve the objectives by 2030.
