DR Congo: How Did Adèle Find a New Vision of Life and Meaning?
Adèle sells cassava flour and is a member of the Bomba Okosepela savings group. Her story perfectly illustrates how World Vision’s Empowered Worldview approach can transform not only a person’s finances but also their mindset.
Before taking part in the training, Adèle lived in constant financial instability.
“I used to sell, but I didn’t know how to manage or save my money. Everything I earned was wasted,” she recalls.
Things began to change when she joined the savings group and attended the Empowered Worldview sessions.
“We learnt to save, plan, and invest wisely. Today, I know how to manage what God entrusts to me,” Adèle explains confidently.
With this new mindset, she regained confidence and resumed the construction of her house, a dream she had thought lost.
“I was living in an unfinished shelter. At some point, I could no longer continue. But thanks to my small savings, I was able to complete the construction,” she shares proudly.
“I dreamt of living peacefully, like others, in a good house, even when it rains. That dream has come true,” she adds emotionally.
But her transformation did not stop with her finances. It also changed her understanding of family responsibilities.
“Before, I thought paying school fees was my husband’s duty. Even when I had money, I would let my children be sent home. Thanks to the training, I realised that I also have a responsibility,” she confides.
This year, Adèle took the initiative to prepare her children for the new school term: “I bought their uniforms, supplies, and bags. My husband was very happy to see this change. Now, we work together for the good of our family,” she says with pride.
Empowered Worldview has also helped her manage her business better:
“Before, I used to buy without comparing prices and sold at a loss. Now, I take the time to plan, evaluate, and avoid unnecessary expenses,” she explains.
Her transformation is rooted in biblical wisdom, where responsibility and discernment are essential values. One verse touches her deeply:
“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down,” she quotes from Proverbs 14:1.
“For me, this verse perfectly describes what I went through. Before, I wasn’t building, I was destroying without realising it. Today, thanks to God and World Vision, I am building my house, my family, and my future,” she testifies gratefully.
Adèle now shares what she has learnt with her husband, her neighbours, and members of her savings group.
“I explained to my husband what Empowered Worldview means. Now, we see things differently. Together, we plan for our future and raise our children better,” she says.
And she concludes with heartfelt gratitude:
“Thank you so much, World Vision, for this training. It has changed the way we see the world. I now know that God has given me the ability to act, to create, and to transform my life.”
