In partnership with the Somalia Logistics Cluster, WVI successfully delivered 25.712 metric tonnes of life-saving medical and nutrition supplies to hard-to-reach locations.

Between August 2025 and February 2026, World Vision Somalia mobilised and distributed 422.67 metric tonnes of essential nutrition, medical, WASH, and non-food item (NFI) supplies through Gift-in-Kind (GIK) contributions from World Vision USA and World Vision Canada.

With an estimated total value of USD 450,000, this support has been pivotal in sustaining life-saving health and nutrition services during a period characterised by severe funding constraints, access limitations, and heightened vulnerability among crisis-affected populations.

"GIK is our way of complementing the support that we are receiving from our generous donors. By distributing the gifts we receive, we have effectively complemented cash-funded programming, ensuring continuity of essential services and expanding reach into high-need and underserved locations”, said Kevin Mackey, World Vision Somalia National Director.

GIK nutrition supplies enabled the establishment of new nutrition treatment programmes in areas previously uncovered by other donors, reducing the need for beneficiaries to travel long distances to access care.

World Vision Somalia Health and Nutrition Technical Advisor Zerihun Marere highlighted the crucial role of Gift-in-Kind in filling funding gaps and sustaining support for children impacted by the ongoing drought:

"The supplies have supported in implementation of the extended approach criteria in locations without Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programmes (TSFPs), bridged critical stock-outs, and safeguarded uninterrupted service delivery in fragile operational environments- saving children’s lives."

World Vision Somalia further strengthened value for money through coordinated logistics solutions. In partnership with the Somalia Logistics Cluster, WVI successfully delivered 25.712 metric tonnes of life-saving medical and nutrition supplies to hard-to-reach locations.

This principled, coordinated approach ensured timely humanitarian access while generating an estimated USD 61,295 in transportation cost savings—resources that were effectively redirected toward direct program delivery for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

These results underscore World Vision’s added value in Somalia: combining GIK, strong supply-chain management, and effective humanitarian coordination to enhance operational efficiency and maximize donor investments. Through this integrated approach, World Vision continues to translate resources into measurable impact, sustaining critical services and reaching the most vulnerable when and where needs are greatest
