Education has the power to change lives, break cycles of poverty, and build stronger communities. Yet, for many children in Sri Lanka, the lack of basic infrastructure and learning resources continues to limit their potential.
SHIKSHA is a national movement to bridge this gap by transforming 50 of the most vulnerable schools across all 25 districts of Sri Lanka within 50 weeks, directly impacting the lives of more than 15,000 students.
By creating safe, inclusive, and future-ready learning environments, this initiative will improve access to digital education, modern classrooms, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, sports, mental well-being, child protection, and environmental sustainability. These interventions will help children attend school more regularly, engage more effectively in learning, and develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.
Support a school by funding an intervention. Every contribution helps create a better learning environment for children.

I have visited about 300 to 400 schools in 20 out of 25 districts in our country. For me, it is quite sad to say that these schools does not even have the basic facilities.
Education is the greatest investment we can make for the future.

How does SHIKSHA ensure the sustainability of the project?
Sustainability is at the heart of SHIKSHA. World Vision Lanka has a strong grassroots presence through 31 field locations across Sri Lanka, enabling continuous engagement with schools, School development societies, Mother support groups , communities, and local stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Under this agreement, the Zonal Education Department assumes responsibility for the ongoing management, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting of the interventions, ensuring that the benefits continue to serve generations of students. This collaborative approach strengthens local ownership and guarantees the long-term sustainability of every investment made through SHIKSHA.
How often is the project monitored?
