The miracle of water
“Los García” is a neighborhood located 5 minutes from Santa Lucia, Boaco . Four months ago, access to drinking water was only a dream. Nowadays, more than 1000 people on this crowded neighborhood have access to water.
In the past, families had to travel 2 kilometers to get water on a road that is not in good condition. Today, clean water is a reality for these families through a driven supported by World Vision Nicaragua, the Mayor and members of the community.
Inocenta María García Angulo is a community leader whose leadership has been very important for the community to have access to drinking water. Los Garcia now have 28 posts that has changed the lives of 1026 people of whom 354 are children .
Maria is 38 years old mother of two sponsored children: Rodrigo (10) and Nielson (12) . She is a primary school teacher and has been teaching for 20 years in this community.
This woman of slim build, dark complexion and easy smile says that she needs to have an agenda to organize her time as a teacher , mother, Sunday school teacher and community leader .
“My biggest dream is to see my community transformed and to see my two children become successful professionals. Rodrigo dreams to become an archaeologist and Nielson want to be a constructor and if God grants me life I'll be able to meet this goal” she says proudly.
This mother feels that this water project is an important first step for the community to improve their living conditions. "Having water today is a dream come true and if it were not for the work of many community members and the unconditional support of the sponsors in Taiwan this would not have been possible”.
At one point in the construction of ditches to bring the water stations there were more than 70 community volunteers who put their labor available to a project that would benefit everyone.
Maria´s son, Nielson, is one of the children that today enjoy clean water. “I am happy because we don´t need to walk anymore to bring water to our homes , now is really close to us and is always clean. Before children got sick because the water that we consumed was not clean. Now the water is very good, "says Nielson Vidal Angulo while hugging his mother Maria.
Nielson has just finished his sixth grade and now is going to study in “Beatriz Rocha Institute” for high school. He is a very smiley and friendly child who is always surrounded by friends who share a love for baseball.
Since an early age Nielson knew what he wanted to be when he grew up:, "My biggest dream is to become a builder and the first thing I will do is improve the conditions of my mother´s house for her to live like a queen “, he says .
No doubt he will achieve this dream because he is a very diligent and child who loves to study. His father had to go to the United States illegally 5 years ago. He lives and works in Miami to send his wife and children 150 dollars once a month. "I know that my parents are making a great sacrifice for us and I want to make an effort to be a good man," he says
.
Nielson says that one of the happiest days of his life was to see the Water Project become a reality . "I know that we will move forward with the community, working together to live better ," he concludes with a smile .
