World Vision, in collaboration with the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), are working to promote gender equality in the social and political arenas of Central African Republic (CAR). Currently, the main hurdle in increasing women participation in the political arena is lack of access to knowledge and information. This is what the “Promoting Women’s Political Participation in Ombella M’poko” project seeks to address. Working in the Ombella M’poko prefecture of CAR, the project seeks to the following:
- Women and girls in target prefecture have increased knowledge and understanding on their rights to participation spaces and political processes,
- Women and young girls engage in sustained dialogue using new and existing platforms to identify and address common issues that limit participation
- Men in target prefecture understand and actively encourage women and young girls in their families to participate in political processes.
With funding from UNDEF, World Vision seeks to educate women and girls on their right to be actors in the political sphere and to empower them to identify and tackle the stumbling blocks to their participation. The project also seeks to educate men on the rights of women and young girls to not only have their voices heard but also their rights to participate in the political process and to encourage them to actively support and encourage their participation.
