World Vision assessing operations in turbulent eastern DRC
World Vision has suspended activities in some of the areas affected by escalating insecurity in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The activities affected areas in are Masisi and Rutshuru.
“The bottom line is that World Vision staff and assets are fine. However, we have now stopped our operations in the two most affected areas of Masisi and Rutshuru. Our staff has been relocated to Goma as we continue to watch how things unfold,” said national Director, Robert Kisyula.
The new instability has been caused by the defection of military officers from FARDC who joined former rebel group CNDP led by Bosco Ntanganda. Thousands of families have been and continue to be displaced by the fighting between the rebels and government troups.
World Vision is running protection, water, sanitation & hygiene and food aid projects in those affected areas, meaning that our beneficiaries will not be assisted until works resume. All that is conditioned by peace coming back in the areas we operate in.
