North Korea - Feeding the 40,000

World Vision does remarkable work in North Korea, which seems incredible in such a closed context. (Read North Korea blog part 1.)

World Vision imports enough wheat flour through our Food for Life programme to feed about 40,000 children. We also built two noodle factories and a bakery that provide food to nursery schools and Kindergartens in rural areas.

World Vision has drilled a number of wells too, bringing clean drinking water to entire villages.

The country struggles with reliable electricity during the winter and during drought, but World Vision invested in solar panels to operate the well pumps.

After building a factory and providing equipment, the community can produce 3,000 tonnes of organic fertiliser per year. A government run chicken farm down the road provides the waste of 200,000 chickens to the factory, which in turn distributes fertiliser to local farmers to help improve their yield.

I'm thankful to have seen the work and thankful that we can work in this context, helping those in need of support.
