Distribution of flood relief items in Agusan del Sur, Philippines
In response to massive flooding in Agusan del Sur of Mindanao region in the Philippines, World Vision, in partnership with Procter & Gamble started its relief operation in La Paz, Agusan del Sur on 6th February.
World Vision, so far, has assisted 1112 families in the municipalities of La Paz and Loreto in Agusan del Sur with relief items which include a water purifier kit (water purifier packets, jerry cans, filter cloth) and hygiene kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, alcohol, face towel, comb, sanitary napkin, bath and laundry soaps) and solar lamps.
Tropical Storm Auring had dumped heavy rains in the Viasayas and Mindanao regions on January 7th. This was followed by a Low Pressure Area, sustained by tail end of a cold front on January 16, which triggered flooding in many low-lying areas.
Elvira was as excited as her three children when they received the essentials. "We barely have money for toothpaste that's why you see my son smiling," she giggles while checking the content of the kits.
Donna, on the other hand, is thankful for the P&G water purifier packets. Each packet is able to treat up to 10 litres of water. "This is interesting. I want to learn how to use it right. This will be helpful especially to the children."
