Second Meeting of Mayors Municipal Systems Child Protection

UNICEF and World Vision, held the second meeting of mayors of municipalities working on the development of municipal Protection of Children and Adolescents, with the objective of creating an information and reflection on the implementation of local systems of protection children and adolescents in the selected municipalities, their progress and experiences.

The event was chaired by Mrs. Rosa Leal de Perez, First Lady of the Nation, Thomas Solomon, National Director of World Vision Guatemala, children and representatives of Guatemalan Parliament for Children and Adolescents, Norma Cruz of Survivors Foundation , IDEI, Child Fund, Children's Refuge, different personalities and 40 local authorities across the country.

"We believe that by working together we will eradicate this problem and with the support of the President of the Republic and the accompanying World Vision, United Nations Program for Education (Unicef), the Survivor Foundation, Child Fund and IDEI, among others" said Rosa Perez Leal, First Lady of the Nation.

Christian Skoog, UNICEF Representative, referring to Systems Protection of Children and Young explained that it is important ¨ join the initiatives of local authorities to implement the right of children to be protected from threats and rights violations, with the protection of children a challenge ¨ he said.

Thomas Solomon, National Director of World Vision Guatemala, said "we have realized that the issue of protection is so important if we are to achieve our dream that every child reaches their full life. Protection initiatives for children and adolescents, we work them hand in hand with the representatives of municipalities and other institutions to be effective processes ¨.

During the activity socialized experiences of municipalities that have implemented advanced systems and local protection to children and adolescents. We generated a political compromise between local authorities, to monitor local protection systems in the municipalities selected for the project.
