Children Enjoy good health

  • The health program focuses on the nutrition of children by monitoring their height and weight and involving mothers in trainings about preparation of nutritious food. This year, 20,315 children under 5 years old were evaluated and have an adequate nutrition according to their age.
  • 15,259 children under 5 years old were vaccinated through the coordination with National Health Centres located in the sponsored communities.

Children Are educated for life

  • The Education program aims to ensure that all children attend school, with the necessary supplies and in an adequate environment. This year, 42,179 children under 12 years old passed their grades in elementary school; it was an important achievement as World Vision constantly monitors and encourages children to continue studying and prevent school dropout.
  • 5,211 children under 6 years old are part of the “Play and Learn Centres,” an initial education project that prepares children for their first year at school.
  • 19,773 adolescents from 13 to 18 years old are studying in junior high school or participating in occupational courses.
  • 159 Schools are organized and trained on school security. The Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs division of World Vision Guatemala organized training sessions with teachers so children can learn how to react in case of emergencies such earthquakes or flooding.

Children Experience love of God and their neighbours

  • 217 young leaders are organized in a national network to create and strength leadership in the communities.
  • World Vision Guatemala promotes the well-being of children, adolescents and youths, reaching 87,478 during 2011.
  • 2,793 families now generate incomes over the poverty line through their participation in the economic development actions supported by the ADPs.

Children Are cared for, protected and participating

WV Guatemala has been working with UNICEF to organize Municipal Child Protection Offices in the communities. At present, the municipalities of the Central Region where World Vision´s ADPs work, have their own office and have been trained on how to implement a local system for child protection.
