Green School Starts to Spread Its Wings

Thursday, June 19, 2014

Last December, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), partner of World Vision in Indonesia, had cooperation with Department of Education in Sambas to multiply Green School program in surrounding areas.  To make it real, Area Development Program (ADP) in Sambas District, West Kalimantan offered seven headmasters of primary schools to implement the program.

Together they also met with representatives of the Green School program. The representatives have been well trained by WVI and affirmed by Sajingan Besar Board of Education.

Five of seven headmasters are really interested to this contextual education program. They wished this program could also be implemented in their school.

From the meeting, it is found that green school program could be started in 2014 by focusing on two replicated schools in Teluk Keramat. These two schools have been also recommended by Department Education of Teluk Keramat sub-district.

For further action, WVI Sambas invited 14 teachers in Teluk Keramat to survey SDN 07 Sasak which is well known as the model of Green School in Sambas. At this meeting, six teachers from SDN 07 Sasak presented the program to the guests.

This was a great opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with each other. The guest teachers are also invited to tour the school that pioneered the program.

With this activity, it is hoped that other schools could also apply Green School program in order to make a significant change in Indonesian education system.
