A Boy’s International Adventure

A trip of over 2,000 km took Khamphouva, 14, from rural Laos to Taiwan.

In early January, he represented children from his community, and took part in the World Vision Taiwan 50th Anniversary celebration.

Khampouva is a sponsored child from the World Vision project area in Atsaphone, in southern Laos. And his sponsor is Wang Leehom, a famous Taiwanese musician and entertainer.

“I was very exciting to meet with him again. I did remember that he was very tall and handsome,” Khamphouva remembers.

Wang Leehom visited Laos in 2007, when Khamphouva was just 7 years old. During the visit they played football, cooked, and searched for food.

“I remember we were catching crickets. It made me understand poverty,” Wang Leehom recalls.

Wang Leehom continues to personally support World Vision through child sponsorship programs.

“He is more than sponsor, he treats me as brother,” Khamphouva shares.

In Taiwan, Khamphouva and Wang Leehom performed together on stage to commemorate World Vision Taiwan’s 50th Anniversary at a concert.

“I am proud to be contributing to World Vision development programs. I saw the improvement of my sponsored children. It would be useless, if we are wealthy, but just enjoy it ourselves, and not share with the poor,” Wang Leehom expressed in front of a crowd of more than 3,500 Taiwanese in the audience.

Through World Vision’s works, Khamphouva has grown into a healthy young man with a bright future.

Child Sponsorship

Child sponsorship is an effective and fulfilling way to support a child from community in need. Child sponsorship funds community-based development activities, designed to bring about long-term sustainable improvements for the wellbeing of children and families.

Child-community representatives facilitate the learning process from the community and ADP to the sponsor. Through this relationship, sponsors are better able to understand the reality of the World Vision’s work in Laos.
