World Vision Creates Inspiration for Children

In cooperate with local authorities, World Vision provided an opportunity for 130 children from 10 villages, in Nong district to exchange lessons learned and share their talents through a one day Child Club event in Nong Area Development Programme (ADP).
Aphai, 11, a girl from Xouangtai, brought a banana from a tree that her parents planted to share with other children, “Banana is good for your health, you can eat with sticky rice and to sell.”
Aphai’s family is one of the families that received support from the livelihood program in Nong ADP. The family planted more than 200 bananas trees.
Alui, 12 a boy from Xouang Tai village showed his talent by singing a song, “I have liked singing since I was little,” he shares.
In addition to sharing their knowledge and talents, children also learned about personal hygiene. They learned about cutting their nails, washing hands with soap, and using a toothbrush. The instruction followed with games, a Q & A session and information about child rights.
One of the highlights of this event was a cooking class. Children over age 10 learned how to deep-fry a banana with rice powder and coconut milk.
“I will tell my mom and cook fried bananas at home,” said Pasor, 14 from Sadee Yai village.
Another objective of the event was to provide an opportunity for children to learn about World Vision home gardens, an important link for access to nutritious food.
Mr. Bounluane Lathanavong, an official from the District Party Committee, appreciated the World Vision Child Club event, “It is a good activity to build an initiative for the children on how to promote home garden products, which is practical in Nong,” he said in closing ceremony.
Nong district is one of the poorest districts in Savannaket province. World Vision has worked alongside the local authorities in Nong district to improve the lives of children since 2008, covering 35 target villages and supporting some 2,500 children through the sponsorship programme. There are 13,193 people who benefit from the programs in the community.
World Vision focuses on child well-being and works on health, education, livelihood program and child protection.
