A successful anti-malaria campaign

The chemo-prevention of seasonal malaria protects more than 87,000 children e
very year in the locality of Koro, in the same period; there are hundreds of children who fall ill and dozens who die for the same avoidable cause: Malaria! However several preventive measures as well as treatments against malaria are available. But vulnerable populations and / or illiterates do not have access because of lack of information and /or a lack of financial resource.

To assist these people, World Vision Mali and its partners supported by World Vision US have facilitated the distribution of seasonal chemo-prevention treatment of Malaria to 87156 children of less than5 years. This action has helped to reduce the number of uncomplicated cases and severe malaria; to turn down the rate of hospitalization caused by malaria and consequently reduce the mortality rate of children from 0 to 5 years old due to malaria.

According to Dr. Mustapha Sissoko, chief medical doctor of the health district; "In 2013 during the period of July-December, there were 19,813 cases of malaria among children from 0 to 5 years old in 2014 while during the same period, there were 9863 cases. The reduction was observed especially for severe malaria which went from 10,148 cases in 2013 to 5 323 cases in 2014.

Thank to this campaign, they are 92% of children from 0 to 5 years old who have been protected against malaria and its deadly effects. It is a joy for both mothers and entire families to see their children in good health. Aminata Niangaly, is a mother of 6 children, two have received drug distribution, she is happy and she admitted that thanks to the distribution of medicines her children have not made malaria during the last rainy season, "our meager savings were invested in medical expenses of our children, imagine 10,000 CFA per child. Today these savings allow us to pay food, '' she told us.

As to Adama Coulibaly, Prefect of Koro, he express his joy to choose his circle and thanks World Vision for this excellent initiative and launches a heart cry for the continuity of this campaign that has considerably reduced malaria cases during the raining season in his prefecture.
