“My husband told me that I should get some rest, but I did not want to sleep. As soon as he fell asleep, I went out because I heard that the people below started to scream. I went there and I saw that my sister’s house had started to flood. She started to scream, she was desperate because of all her belongings. I went back home and I told my husband to get the children out because the river was overflowing. Afterwards I went to warn my in-laws, but they did not hear me, I knocked on their door and nothing, they did not come out, my husband had to jump their fence to get them out. We went to my sister-in-law’s house, I was able to get all my things. I do not know how I did it, to tell you the truth, but I was able to get my stove, my washing machine, my blankets, everything, by myself. After that we got in a truck. My daughters told me that we needed to go because we were going to drown. When we left, the water level was rising, we never imagined the force of the water would be so strong. My sister and my in-laws lost everything, but we are now cleaning so we can come back to our house with our things.” Said Mrs. Silvia, La Mascota inhabitant, in the state of Jalisco.
