Civil Society Coalition Urges World Bank to Step Up Nutrition Financing

Press Statement. - London/ Washington DC. 13 October 2025. Despite undeniable progress, malnutrition remains one of the world’s most urgent and devastating public health challenges contributing to nearly half of all child deaths and costing low- and middle-income countries trillions in lost productivity each year. As global funding tightens and humanitarian needs deepen, the World Bank’s leadership has never been more critical.
As one of the largest financiers of nutrition, the World Bank holds both a responsibility and an opportunity: to ensure that nutrition is not a peripheral concern but a central pillar of its agenda from universal health coverage and social protection to jobs and human capital development by:
Increasing and tracking nutrition financing to ensure resources reach those most in need.
Strengthening people-centred policies and accountability, ensuring transparency and community engagement.
Integrating nutrition across all Bank priorities, recognising that no investment in human development can succeed without it.
The coalition’s call comes at a defining moment for global development. Investing in nutrition is an imperative for human development and children’s right to thrive.
