Soukhouma, 10th January 2024World Vision's commitment to fostering family and community unity in Laos reached a significant milestone on January 10, 2024, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Joined by Ms. Vankham Sengsavang, the vice Provincial Lao Women’s Union, and Ms. Edelweiss Silan, National Director for World Vision International Lao PDR, the ceremony took place at the Soukhouma District Administration Office, chaired by Ms. Talavanh Keophilavanh, Provincial Lao Women’s Union.

The "Promoting Unity for the Family and Community" project, spearheaded by this MOU, is strategically designed to fortify positive relationships within families—a foundational unit supporting child well-being and protection. Employing celebratory family modules, the project delivers uplifting parenting messages, instilling hope and aspirations for children's futures, incorporating family planning solutions, and promoting key messages of Child Protection and gender equality in parenting. This evidence-based program, successful in various countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Mongolia, and Thailand, serves as a beacon for progressive achievements.

Having demonstrated success, the project is set to enter its second phase, expanding to an additional 10 villages, bringing the total to 20 target villages in Soukhouma District. In collaboration with local partners, including the Champasack Women’s Union, World Vision aims to benefit over 8,000 people, with a focus on knowledge distribution and capacity building for parents, caregivers, and communities. The project's impact is far-reaching, indirectly benefiting a total of 11,000 individuals, including 6,500 women.

With funding totalling 184,995 USD provided by World Vision in the United States, the project is slated for implementation in September 2024. This initiative continues to showcase the dedication of World Vision, state parties, and local governments in championing family unity and community well-being to ensure the most vulnerable children in Laos enjoy life in all its fullness.
