Stopping hunger causes a change

World Vision first launched in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, the campaign "Stop hunger: causes a change" that will mobilize thousands of teenagers and young people to speak out and advocate for the right of everyone to be free from hunger .

There are 13 countries where the campaign will take place during the months of February and March, at which time mobilization efforts will be made to benefit children suffering from hunger, such as concerts, parades, cultural events, lectures, theater, games , etc. Moreover, for a time of 24 hours, participants voluntarily waive the food intake and / or use of entertainment devices, such as TV, mobile devices, or other personal preferences.

The lawyer Maria Haydee Pereira, director of World Vision Nicaragua, explained that fasting in solidarity campaign is to sensitize young people between 15 and 28 years and demonstrate for the population suffering shortages, hunger and poverty in the regions of Latin America and the Caribbean and in the Horn of Africa.

Many private colleges, churches, civil society organizations and NGOs in the region have joined this effort hoping to summon a significant number of young people ready to be part of change. According to Ms. Pereira, is an initiative that has helped to raise awareness about the problem of hunger in the world, raising funds and mobilizing churches.

"We hope this initiative will join teens and young churches, schools, universities and other youth groups, in a region characterized by social inequality, where more than 31% of the population, or 177 million people are poor and 55 million hungry, according to figures of 2011 of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), "he added.
