How can ethics guide cities towards just, inclusive, sustainable, resilient and well-governed futures?

World Vision International and the UN Global Compact – Cities Programme invite you to the first Urban Thinkers Campus to be held in Australia, themed “Ethical Cities: Locking in Liveability”. The Campus is part of a UN-Habitat global campaign to inform the New Urban Agenda, to be launched at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Ecuador, October 2016.

The event will focus on principles, policies and action planning aimed at bringing ethics and values to the forefront of city planning and urban governance. It will explore the ethics of the city under three themes:

  1. Inclusion and Right to the City – What is the role of the city’s key stakeholders in promoting the inclusion of all city dwellers, specifically migrant communities? How can we improve the rights and protection for the most vulnerable, and provide equitable and dignified access to services and economic opportunities, especially for children and youth?

  2. Ethical Urban Development – What defines ethical leadership at the city, business and community level? How can ethical principles be considered into city planning and local businesses? What does it mean to be an ethically engaged citizen?

  3. Urban Resilience – What does success look like when urban resilience is supported by an ethical framework? What are the requisites to accelerate the implementation of innovative programs and projects that enhance community resilience?

The event will propose key recommendations to creating shared value in the city for all its citizens, especially children and youth, to be submitted to the UN Secretariat for Habitat III for consideration in the New Urban Agenda.
