An Adaptation of Community Health Worker Assessment and Improvement Matrix (CHW-AIM): Checklist for Implementing Partners: A New Tool for Implementing Organizations Working with CHWs to Ensure Responsible and Ethical CHW Support
This poster was presented by Mijung Kim, World Vision Korea, at the 4th International Community Health Workers Symposium in November 2025.
World Vision International has developed the CHW-AIM: Checklist for Implementing Partners, an adaptation of the USAID Community Health Worker Assessment and Improvement Matrix (CHW-AIM). The checklist translates the ten CHW-AIM functionality components into 34 concrete actions for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that partner with Ministries of Health to implement community health programmes.
The tool was created in recognition that NGOs often assign additional responsibilities to CHWs while pursuing programme goals. Although these contributions can improve community outcomes, they must not compromise CHWs’ fair treatment or workload balance. The checklist specifies how NGOs can responsibly uphold CHW-AIM principles within their scope of influence – for instance, sharing training results with the Ministry of Health for accreditation, or aligning incentive structures with national policy.
By providing a clear, actionable framework, the CHW-AIM: Checklist for Implementing Partners ensures that NGOs remain accountable for ethical CHW engagement and consistent programme support. It is now available for general use as a practical tool to strengthen CHW systems and partnerships globally.
