Safe School - A Case Study of Phnom Srok
Thursday, May 30, 2019

Mok Chhneang primary school is located in the North West of Cambodia, at Mok Chhneang village in Banteay Meanchey province; Spean Sreng Commune, Phnom Srok district.

The school has 9 teachers (5 females), 72 students (34 girls), and 24 registered children (13 girls). Every year, the school faces issues with flooding and strong winds. This can make it difficult for students and teachers to access the school and can lead to the cancellation of classes during the wet season. The cancellation of classes is often due to the poor condition of the roads and overflow from the nearby river or rice fields.

Due to its vulnerability and capacity, the Phnom Srok Area Program of World Vision International-Cambodia integrated and implemented the safe school programme into its main Education and Life Skills project in 2018. The project has worked on all three pillars of the safe school guidelines from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS); which also aligns with the ASEAN Common Framework for Comprehensive School Safety (CFCSS).
