Danica Gebru

Danica Gebru is the Resource Acquisition and Management Director as part of the Senior Leadership Team. She joined the WVE family in September 2023.

Before joining World Vision, Danica was implementing US government projects, most recently the Feteh (Justice) Activity from 2019 to 2023, where she led the $21.5mil project’s technical component, granting and strengthening the capacity of local civil society involved in the human rights and justice space. She led project-wide communications, monitoring and evaluation, as well. Since 2014, she’s held technical, operational, and resource mobilisation capacities on multiple USAID-funded projects with hundreds of local civil societies, health, and refugee-focused organisations, as well as several international nonprofits. She also held fundraising roles with the Dutch refugee-focused INGO, ZOA, leading our submissions and coordination of large consortia.

She was first called to Ethiopia in 2010, where she spent three years serving women living with HIV through income-generating activities to holistically address their needs, connecting them with fair-trade retailers across the US and Europe and successfully transitioned the activity to a long-term female-led local business that has multiple stores across the city and still exports to fair-trade retailers across the globe.

Danica first learned of World Vision at her high school outside of Chicago, which partnered closely with World Vision to build schools, wells, and churches in remote areas of Zambia. She looks back on that as a formative time when God grew in her a deep-rooted passion for service, missions, and transformational empowerment. She is humbled to be a part of increasing WVE's meaningful impact in such a uniquely challenging and opportune time for the country.

Danica holds a Master’s degree in Public Health with a focus on Health Communications from Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA, USA), and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Aurora University (Aurora, IL, USA).

Danica is married to Simon, and together God has blessed them with three sons (Levi - 11 years, Ruben - 7 years, and Titus - 3 years). Together, they attend Addis Ridge Church, where they serve in children’s ministry and serve on the Missions Board.
