Battling Malnutrition

Monday, September 24, 2012

“Malnutrition is a critical problem in Rwanda and it has a bad impact on children,” says Agnes Mukamana, World Vision’s health and nutrition manager in Rwanda.

Ignorance, poverty, infant diseases and food insecurity are the major causes of malnutrition. Mukamana says that malnutrition ravages not only the body but also affects children psychologically.

World Vision works hard to reduce prevalence of malnutrition and child mortality in all its projects.

“We have been able to rehabilitate more than 7,000 children within the last two years and more than 20,000 mothers where trained on how to prepare abalanced diet for their children,” says George Gitau, World Vision’s national director in Rwanda.
