Burkina Faso: World Vision celebrates reaching one million participants
World Vision Burkina Faso has reached a major milestone: over one million people — including more than 680,000 children — have been impacted by its humanitarian and development efforts over the past four years.
To mark this achievement, a special webinar was held on July 15, 2025, bringing together institutional partners, beneficiary communities, international support offices, and a child representative. This key moment was an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments and set the tone for a renewed commitment in the years ahead.
Real people — Real change — Real hope
Thanks to the generosity of donors, more than $21 million was invested between 2021 and 2025. These funds enabled the implementation of integrated programmes in the following areas: Child Protection, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health and Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods.
In partnership with national authorities and over a dozen local organisations, World Vision prioritised the most vulnerable regions of the country, thereby contributing to improved resilience for children and their families.
“IThis is an extraordinary milestone, achieved just four years after opening our office in Burkina Faso. What an incredible testament to what God can do through faithful hearts and united hands! Of course, this achievement is not just about numbers — it’s about real people, real change and real hope,“ I said Carla Denizard, Regional Director of World Vision.
2024–2028 strategy: a holistic and effective response to the hardest-hit communities
World Vision Burkina Faso also used this virtual gathering to present its 2024–2028 country strategy, which aims to reach 1.6 million people, including 1 million of the most vulnerable children.
“Our strategy is a promise to build a better future for the most vulnerable children. We are committed to supporting Burkina Faso in its efforts to provide a holistic and effective response to the most affected communities,” — Donatien Bigiraneza, National Director, World Vision Burkina Faso.
Children’s Voices at the Center of Decision-Making
Fatim, a young girl representing children on the panel, delivered a powerful message:
“It’s essential to let children speak up when it comes to solving the problems that affect them. World Vision’s success in Burkina Faso is also due to its constant effort to involve us and give us a voice to propose solutions.”
Participants unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the active participation of children and their families in decision-making processes, stating that this is key to the success of the programmes being implemented.
The webinar concluded with a clear call to action: to scale up timely and targeted humanitarian efforts, enhance flexible funding mechanisms, and encourage close collaboration among all stakeholders. Such efforts will help to secure a dignified and hopeful future for every child, while sowing the seeds of sustainable development.
