DR Congo: Rebuilding with Dignity: How One Mother Transformed Emergency Support into Opportunity

At 38, Rosette, a mother of seven, embodies the resilience of women in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through the project Emergency Response to WASH, Protection and Livelihood Needs of IDPs and Host Communities in North Kivu Province, implemented by World Vision with funding from the United States Government, she received a reintegration kit containing traditional fabrics.

What may have seemed like a simple form of assistance became a life-changing opportunity. Using the materials she received, Rosette started a small income-generating business that now enables her to feed her family, send her children to school, and meet their basic needs with dignity.

Her story is a powerful reminder that well-targeted support can create lasting change for the most vulnerable families. In eastern DRC, where recurring armed conflict has left thousands of households struggling to survive, such initiatives represent far more than emergency assistance; they restore hope, strengthen self-reliance, and help families rebuild their lives with dignity.
