Kinderly Bright, a 19-year-old young man whose life, marked by loss and adversity, testifies to the indomitable strength of the human spirit. Orphaned by his mother at just six months old, he was raised by his grandmother in Chabanon (Limonade, Haiti), a woman with a big heart but limited resources. Getting to school was a constant challenge, relying on his grandmother’s meager savings or the unreliable condition of an old bicycle.

His involvement in World Vision’s School Garden program was a breath of fresh air in 2024. He received seeds and seedlings—an unexpected chance to cultivate his own future. Already familiar with farming from his family garden, he quickly turned these gifts into a source of income.

Under his careful attention, peppers, eggplants, papayas, and cabbages flourished. Bright began selling his harvest at the market and later expanded his business by selling seeds to residents of Chabanon. He even partnered with other young people to prepare seeds, creating a small community-based enterprise.

The well built by World Vision was a blessing—no more exhausting trips fetching water with barrels and carts! Bright could now irrigate his garden quickly, increasing his pepper plants from 50 to 300. His independence took root, just like his crops, thriving under Chabanon’s generous sun.

Every week, Bright harvested and sold his produce, earning an average of 3,500 Gourdes. This income allowed him to cover his school transportation, buy clothes, feed himself, and most importantly, support his grandmother and aunt—the pillars of his life.

“The school garden program has given me so much,” Bright says. “My mother passed away when I was little, and I don’t even remember her face. My grandmother and aunt raised and fed me. Today, I am proud to share my earnings with them. It brings me great joy to give them some money and help them whenever they need it.”

But Bright didn’t stop there. He understood that education and an open mind were essential for his growth—the keys to unlocking his potential. He sought to create income opportunities, pursued his studies with determination, and surrounded himself with ambitious people—role models who inspired him.

“When you look for ways to create income and with school helping me improve my thinking skills, I also spend time with people who think big, so I can learn from them and push my goals even further.”

As his name suggests, Bright firmly believes in his bright future. His constant smile, radiating joy, reflects his passion and determination to achieve his most ambitious dreams.

Today, Bright is an independent, thriving young man full of energy. He has transformed his garden into a source of income, strengthened his family bonds, and opened himself to a promising future.
