Savings groups strengthen household financial security Niélé's experience

Before joining a community savings group, Niélé had no way of putting money aside. 

She still remembers the difficult days when every unexpected event became a source of anxiety. When one of her children fell ill, she was forced to borrow money to cover the expenses. She felt a mixture of shame and worry. This situation left her household particularly vulnerable to financial shocks.

As part of its efforts to strengthen households' economic resilience, World Vision organized community awareness sessions on the importance of savings and credit groups. These initiatives aimed to encourage community members, especially women, to adopt regular savings practices and develop financial solidarity mechanisms.

At first, Niélé was not convinced. The idea of putting money aside seemed almost impossible to her. “How could I save when I don't even have enough to live on?” she thought. Curiosity and hope eventually won out. She decided to join the group.

After joining a savings group, Niélé gradually began to put money aside. The first few weeks were not easy, but little by little, Niélé began to see the difference. Small savings slowly turned into a sense of security she had never known before.

Today, these savings enable her to cover certain unexpected expenses, such as her children's healthcare costs. She can also contribute to the purchase of school supplies when her husband has no income. This participation has strengthened her household's ability to manage financial difficulties.

“Before, I couldn't save and had to borrow money when problems arose. Today, thanks to the savings group, I can use my savings to pay for my children's healthcare or buy their school supplies when necessary,” explains Niélé.

In her hands, the money she holds today represents much more than just a few bills. Behind this simple gesture lies the story of a woman who turned uncertainty into strength through solidarity and perseverance.

It is a symbol of her regained dignity, her courage, and her hope for a better future for her family.
