In Menkao, a neighbourhood in the Maluku commune of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Landrine’s life changed suddenly. At 37, she became a widow overnight. A mother of five, she found herself alone, without guidance, facing a mountain of responsibilities.“When my husband passed away, I was overwhelmed with grief. I didn’t know how to feed my children or secure their future,” she shares, her voice filled with emotion.Every day was a struggle. With no support and no stable income, Landrine wondered how she would survive and provide her children with what they deserved.
Then one day, hope returned.

Thanks to World Vision’s programme and the support of sponsors, a project was launched to help 100 vulnerable households, including families with sponsored children. The initiative provided ducks to start small family farms. For Landrine, it was a breath of fresh air.
“I received a few ducks. I raised them with care. They multiplied, and I was able to sell some. With that income, I pay for my children’s education,” she explains proudly.
But that’s not all. Part of her earnings is saved through a savings group set up by World Vision, which helps her manage her money better, save regularly, and plan for the future with more confidence.

With this regained stability, Landrine also launched a small income-generating activity: selling maize in her community.
“The savings group taught me how to manage my finances. Now I can save and invest in my maize business. It’s another way I can support my family,” she adds.
This project didn’t just help her survive—it restored her confidence, dignity, and ambition.
“My dream now is to build a small modern enclosure for my ducks and expand my business. I also want to help other women like me support their families,” she says with determination.

To Landrine, each sponsor is more than just a financial supporter. They are a helping hand, a builder of futures.
“I want to express my deep gratitude to all the sponsors who have helped improve the lives of many families in Menkao, including mine. Thanks to your generosity, we have regained hope and dignity.”
And before concluding, she smiles gently, her eyes shining with gratitude:
“There are no words strong enough to thank you. May God bless you abundantly.”
