THRIVE Project – Story of Change Harona finds hope at home
Today, standing proudly in his thriving vegetable garden in Gourel, Tambacounda, his outlook and daily life have changed significantly.
The turning point came when he joined a training programme at Beersheba Farm through World Vision's THRIVE project. Among the lessons he received, the Empowered Worldview training had the greatest impact.
"It changed the way I see myself and my future," Harona said. "I realized that I have the ability to succeed here, with the resources and opportunities around me."
Inspired by this new perspective, Harona expanded his farming activities. He now grows vegetables, processes and markets moringa (nebedaye), and raises poultry and small ruminants. These new activities have contributed to improving his family's wellbeing and increasing their confidence in the future.
"Knowledge is power," he said with a smile. "Today my family is living well, and we are happy."
Harona's transformation goes beyond his own household. He is determined to help others believe in their own potential. Together with his family and community, he dreams of creating a local training centre inspired by the Beersheba model, where more farmers can gain the skills and confidence to improve their lives.
Looking ahead, Harona hopes to expand his farm, invest in modern irrigation systems, and increase production despite the challenges of a changing climate.
His story is a reminder that lasting change begins with hope. When people gain the confidence, knowledge and opportunity to invest in themselves, they can build resilient livelihoods, strengthen their communities and create brighter futures for the next generation.
