World Vision-Mozambique (WV-Moz) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving child health and nutrition in Zambézia province through the Partnering for Sustainable Education Outcomes (PARES) project.

This initiative delivers a comprehensive package of school and community-based interventions aimed at enhancing food and nutritional security. The announcement was made during the 1st Session of the District Council for Food and Nutritional Security, a multisectoral body led by the local government to promote and coordinate efforts in this area.

In Milange district, PARES provides daily school meals to more than 50,000 children across 100 primary schools, complemented by bi-annual deworming campaigns and regular health check-ups in collaboration with the District Health Service.

Members of the District Council for Food and Nutritional Security call for coordinated actions to tackle malnutrition

The project also promotes health, nutrition, and hygiene education among students. These interventions are especially critical in a province where chronic malnutrition affects 44.6% of children under five - well above the national average of 37%.

The school meal program is funded by the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program of the United States Department of Agriculture. PARES is implemented by a consortium led by WV-Moz in partnership with Catholic Relief Services, the Civil Society Capacity Building and Learning Centre, the International Food Policy Research Institute, and the Government of Mozambique through the National Program of School Meals.
