Ekukhanyeni Community Unites to Restore Degraded Land and Protect their Future
The Ekukhanyeni community, together with World Vision and the Ministry of Agriculture, is restoring a large donga that has threatened homes, livestock, and access to essential services. Recently, community members planted vetiver grass to control soil erosion and stabilise the land. Children like Sinotsile and Siwakhile shared how the donga affected their safety and daily routines, from long walks to school to fears of losing their homes. With nearly four hectares under rehabilitation, the community is hopeful that the restored land will support new livelihood opportunities and a safer future.
